The Fine Print

Questions.
Answered.

Ghostwriting should not feel complicated. Here is what you need to know before we start your book.

About Ghostwriting
01 What exactly does a ghostwriter do? +

A ghostwriter helps turn your ideas, knowledge, experiences, stories, recordings, notes, or unfinished writing into a professionally written book.

You provide the story. We do the writing.

We organize your material, develop the structure, write the chapters, refine the message, and work to make the finished manuscript sound natural to you.

02 Will people know I used a ghostwriter? +

No disclosure from us is required. Ghostwriting is designed to be confidential.

Your name goes on your book. We work behind the scenes.

Black Market Ghostwriters treats your project, conversations, personal stories, business information, drafts, and materials as private project information.

03 Do I need to know how to write? +

No. That is exactly why ghostwriting exists.

You do not need writing experience, a manuscript, an outline, or perfectly organized ideas.

If you can explain your story or idea to us, we can help turn that information into a structured manuscript.

04 What can I give you to help write my book? +

Almost anything that helps us understand your story, knowledge, ideas, or voice can be useful.

  • Interviews and conversations
  • Voice recordings and voice memos
  • Notes and outlines
  • Social media posts
  • Videos and podcast interviews
  • Speeches and presentations
  • Journals and personal stories
  • Existing chapters or unfinished manuscripts

You can also start with nothing more than an idea.

05 Will the book actually sound like me? +

That is one of the main goals of the process.

We use your conversations, stories, vocabulary, personality, existing content, and feedback to understand how you communicate.

The goal is to make your book sound like the best written version of you.

The Process
06 How does the ghostwriting process work? +

Every project is different, but the basic process is simple.

  • You tell us about your book and your goals.
  • You complete your Confidential Author Brief or private interview.
  • We gather your stories, ideas, expertise, and content.
  • We organize the material into a clear structure.
  • Your manuscript is written and developed.
  • You review the work and provide feedback.
  • Revisions are made according to your project agreement.
  • You receive your completed manuscript.
07 How long does it take? +

Your timeline depends on your book type, length, complexity, source material, interviews, and how quickly feedback is provided.

Your specific project timeline will be discussed before work begins so you know what to expect.

Packages, Pricing & Payment
09 What does ghostwriting cost? +

We currently offer five primary writing packages:

  • Short Read: $1,500
  • Children's Book: $2,000
  • Nonfiction: $3,000
  • Memoir: $4,000
  • Novel: Starting at $6,500

Novel pricing varies because full-length fiction can differ significantly in word count, story complexity, number of characters, research, and development requirements.

Projects requiring substantially more length, research, interviews, specialized development, or work outside the normal package scope may require a custom quote.

10 What is the $1,500 Short Read? +

The Short Read is for someone who has one strong story, experience, lesson, message, or focused idea that does not require a traditional full-length book.

It is especially useful for creators, storytellers, speakers, coaches, entrepreneurs, entertainers, professionals, and people whose audience is already responding to a particular story or subject.

The Short Read is generally approximately 5,000 to 10,000 words.

Depending on your project, it may include:

  • Book strategy and development
  • Complete ghostwriting
  • Professional editing
  • Formatting
  • Professional cover design
  • A focused story or topic developed into a short book

A Short Read can also become the foundation for a larger book later.

11 What is included in the $2,000 Children's Book package? +

The Children's Book package is for children's stories, picture-book concepts, short fiction, educational stories, inspirational stories, and creative ideas that need professional development and writing.

The writing package may include:

  • Story concept development
  • Story structure
  • Character development
  • Complete ghostwriting
  • Professional editing
  • Formatting
  • Professional cover design

Custom interior illustrations are not included in the $2,000 price.

Illustration pricing depends on the number of illustrations, complexity, visual style, and production requirements.

12 What's the difference between Nonfiction, Memoir, and Novel? +

Nonfiction, $3,000: Knowledge, expertise, business, coaching, leadership, personal development, systems, lessons, and ideas.

Memoir, $4,000: Your life story, career, experiences, defining moments, relationships, challenges, memories, and personal journey.

Novel, starting at $6,500: Full-length fiction requiring story development, characters, plot, dialogue, scenes, conflict, pacing, and substantial manuscript development.

Final Novel pricing depends on the estimated word count, complexity, research needs, development required, and overall scope.

If you are unsure which category fits, select Not Sure Yet on the project form.

13 Do you offer payment plans? +

Yes. Depending on the project and package, flexible payment arrangements may be available.

Available options may include:

  • Pay in full
  • 50% to begin and 50% before final delivery
  • Scheduled payment plans

The exact payment structure depends on the project and will be confirmed before work begins.

Final manuscript files are delivered after the full project balance has been paid.

Publishing & Printing
14 Is full publishing included in the ghostwriting price? +

No. Full book publishing is a separate service from ghostwriting.

Your ghostwriting package covers the services specifically listed in your selected package and project agreement.

Full publishing is quoted separately because every book has different production requirements.

Publishing services may include:

  • Final interior production
  • Paperback preparation
  • Hardcover preparation
  • Digital book preparation
  • ISBN setup
  • Publishing platform setup
  • Amazon publishing setup
  • Distribution preparation
15 Is physical book printing included? +

No. Physical book printing is separate.

Printing pricing depends on the specifications of your finished book.

  • Finished book size
  • Number of pages
  • Paperback or hardcover
  • Black-and-white or color interior
  • Paper and production specifications
  • Number of physical copies ordered

Once those specifications and your quantity are known, printing can be quoted separately.

16 Can you help after my manuscript is finished? +

Yes. If you want help taking your completed manuscript through the publishing process, let us know.

Publishing is handled as a separate phase because a Short Read, children's book, nonfiction paperback, memoir, hardcover, or novel can have very different production requirements.

We can discuss your publishing goals after your manuscript is completed.

17 Where can I sell, market, and promote my book? +

If you are looking for a platform focused on helping authors sell, market, and promote their books, we recommend our partner Book Umbrella.
